Alys. I checked the place out; found a few details, nothing really substantial. There were unmarked canisters in the ventilation system, and a few neighbors say that they saw three big guys snooping around the building earlier. Two of them were the ones in the video. Dunno about the third.

I saw someone else on the second level talking about how people can't die here. I'm guessing he meant people who were brought in like we were, since those others . . . [trails off] You know anything about whether it's true or not?

[No kidding, hitting yourself with this by accident would not be fun. But hey, you could always learn!] I'm kinda surprised I've managed to hold onto them this long. Pretty sure I've got some of the only ones left on the Planet. I couldn't let Yuffie out of my sight for two seconds.

[Isn't! Is plotting which ones Cloud would be most capable of learning, actually. And also being momentarily confused about him not knowing who Yuffie is before remembering that he hasn't met him yet.] A Wutaian girl we picked up on the way to Kalm. She's a great fighter, but a little too big on five-finger-discounts, if you get my drift. Especially when it comes to materia.

[Shinra hardly ever gives their lower SOLDIERS the good stuff, so the only ones Cloud had were whatever he could find and level. Which blows. So he is looking at your materia like a woman eyes a diamond ring.]

Sounds...inconvenient, actually. We have someone like that in SOLDIER; his motto is that if you aren't actively guarding it, your stuff is up for grabs. I don't know how many times I've decked him for lifting my shit.

Thankfully she stayed away from the rest of our stuff, otherwise I wouldn't've let her join the team. Though I guess she had her reasons for it.

[LOL, sorry Zack. Cloud usually talks more casually when he slips into SOLDIER mode just because everyone else talks that way and it's easier to conform. He doesn't notice, though, and goes back to inspecting Zack's stuff.] Yeah, Thungen. He was that way for you too, huh? Although the General's...talked with him about it, and he's cooled down since then.

I'm betting her reasons are all lucrative ones, Zack. You know the type.

[Which is why it's weird! Cloud is talking like a... a bunkmate. He can wave it off for now, though.] Yeah, same here, except he was caught red-handed first by the director. I think Lazard would've dismissed him on the spot if we weren't so hard up for manpower.

[But that makes him think about all the guys he knew at SOLDIER, all the guys who are... not around any more. If Cloud's watching carefully, he'll see Zack's expression falter sadly before he breezes on again.]

[Cloud nods absently as he concludes his examination of Zack's materia and looks up to catch a flash of sadness. His interest is piqued, but thankfully manners override it and he decides not to press an issue that isn't any of his damn business anyhow.

And then the next part sunk in, and he gapes at Zack.]
