I guess it was spleen cancer? When we took him he had a ruptured abdominal tumor, and his gums were pale which meant he was anemic. He was rushed into emergency surgery where they removed his spleen, which was all lumpy and bumpy, and sent it off to see if it was cancerous or benign. He died 2 days later at our house due to a blood clot. Spleen problems apparently are very common in labs and shepards around their 8 or 9th year, and about 1/3 of their blood is in the spleen, so when it gets cancer it gets it really quick because so much blood is coming to it. So even if we knew a month ago and got chemo, it could still come back in a year like that. It just sucks because he was SUCH a good dog!
