downsizing giftgiving this year. is there anything new this year to give on a budget? also my father has been diagnosed with diabetes. we used to get him socks, gloves, and boxes of chocolate covered cherries, but now he can't have the sweets. what to get him?

If I were in your shoes, I would look through Kevin Kelly's Cool Tools blog. There is doubtless something in the archive that your dad can't live without (but just doesn't know it yet.) Alt: get him and his dog matching or semi-matching somethings.

This is a great idea. I was going to use it for other male family members, but the first two things I went to on amazon.com were sold out! That's ok, I'm going to keep checking.
