ever wonder how towns in sg got their names... and wat it really means.

give a try...
(clue: think mrt stations)

1) means 'cemetry' in hokkien and 'new' in malay

2) a derivative of the malay word meaning 'voracious shark'

3) hokkien and teochew name meaning 'river's end'

4) derived from hokkien phrase meaning 'westerner bridge'

lol... actually even if i know malay, i might not know some cos of the mispelling.
or even if i know wat it means... might not know how it was derived till i read about the reasons... like 'wet rice'. dunno if there is a place in sg which means 'sticky rice' in malay or some dialects. =P
