"It's been really hard to come back to work after the holidays." - Discuss

It's been really hard to come back to work after the holidays. I still have skin peeling off. I have a satisfying rock on my dresser. I have a whole bunch of photos stolen from someone with considerably more photography talent because my camera ran out of batteries because I stayed on holiday much longer than I intended to. Sigh ( Read more... )

the abel tasman national park is one of my two favourite parts of nz.
i've been chased away by the DOC people several times.
i have also slept at the centre of nz.
i climbed a big hill yesterday. it wasn't anywhere near as big as the ones in your pictures but it had the sort of hill where you trudge up & up & up & think your heart my pop out of your chest. then at the top it was so windy you could lean right over without falling down & it made my head feel all compressed & oh it was icy, so icy cold. the view however, was amazing. as was running down from the summit afterwards.
heaven = big mountain trek = probably right. what's at the top of the mountain though?

At the top of our mountain on the first day there was a hut, and some tussock, and some keas. On the second day there was another hut, a mountain lake in a big basin, and the feeling of accomplishment having made it there. I don't think it's the top of the mountain that's the big attraction. I think it's being able to clamber around rocky slopes humming the LOTR theme on the way to the top of the mountain.

"Oooh look! It's Mordor!"

What's your other favourite part?

top of the north island, around 90 mile beach & cape reinga & spirits bay.

on the top of my hill there was one of those cairn type things that usually points out & names the surrounding hills on a big metal plate on the top. this one was blank. anti-climax. fortunately i have knowledgeable friends!

these are amazing! the second to last one where you're in the woods is absolutely surreal!

The change in landscape over the 8 hours of walking on that day was amazing. First we started in, like, NO visibility, climbing down this scrabbley and filthy steep rock slope to get down the mountain. We couldn't see the bottom, and I was kind of glad. We met so many people coming up, and it's probably good they couldnt' see how far and steep they had to climb. Then it turned into this misty moody mossy forest, then it was sun and river and grassy things with bizarre leafless trees, then lake edge forest. So good. This type of forest (the surreal green) is absolute NZ for me. So many things to gape at!

Get up with the play, Iva :P Mind you, I have difficulty keeping track of where you are these days too. Auckland?

I've been back in town since June. And I'm living in the same block of flats... except at number 3. It's like I never left!
