I must be a right hippy wannabe if I'm up at a quarter to one on a school night reading about permaculture. i so want chickens when i grow up. i lived on a farm in wales for a while with the happiest chickens in the world, and i've never eaten eggs as delicious as their eggs, before or since! and now i can't eat poke-em-with-a-sharp-stick cage eggs cos they just look all pallid & sickly & WRONG, and they taste of nothing at all. plus i'd get to have pet chickens!

If you read up on chickens in permaculture you'd have multi-purpose, swiss-army chickens! They do all sorts of things. Go go gadget fowl! The problem with the pet aspect is that you have to eat them eventually. And before you eat them, you have to pluck them. Fortunately if you feed them up on sunflower seeds beforehand, all the fat in the seeds makes their feathers fall out. I really read too much about chickens.

the font of all chicken knowledge eh. interesting stuff to know actually! i know you have to eventually eat your pet chickens, although i'm vege so maybe someone else would eat them instead. although if they were mine & i'd hand reared them & fed them only tasty things & loved them & let them be happy chickens then i'd probably be ok eating them!
