December 25th (Christmas Day!)

I'm sitting in a cafe with my laptop. I have a cinnamon bun, a bowl full of fruit, yoghurt and cereal, a coffee with some sort of caramel thing going on. I'm surrounded by people you might alternately call farang, falang, or "whitefullas". There are waiters and waitresses wearing santa hats ( Read more... )

i have a deep appreciation for untidied (is that a word? and if so, is it spelled right?) pictures featuring regular folks in regular (normal) poses and regular light (or better yet: lack of light) doing regular things...basically, i love pics of normal people in natural moments (Henri Cartier-Bresson was the master at this--he never used a flash or unnatural lighting)...with that said, my absolute favorite pic taken by you thus far is one of the sad-not-sad girls. my next favorite is the one of Anu and Sebastian-from-Germany (i dig the contrast caused by the angle of the light...i love to take pictures where the sun is coming at me instead of the object. it's always a crapshoot. the pics could come out mysteriously gorgeous or it come out completely bunk...the price you pay, i suppose.)

I don't know if I'd call those pictured "untidied", although we perhaps have different ideas of what that word means. I'm manipulating you all the time with the way I edit the photos. Crop a little here, boost the colour here. I see it as turning the photos into a more accurate representation of what I was actually seeing with my eyes and mind at the time. The camera often doesn't do it justice. I wear brown-lens sunglasses: I tint things a little brownwise. If the room is depressing I tint things a little bluewise ( ... )

by "untidy" i mean dirt on faces, hair uncombed, hand in mouth, haha. basically, when i say "untidy" i am speaking about the objects being photographed (as in, they are all natural), and not necessarily the photographs themselves. although i must say that there is a certain grittiness that i fully enjoy about photographs left untidied as well.

also, i love tints! keep tinting, sista!
