I don't think you're out of line. It makes perfect sense to me to reject more of an overrepresented group if some sort of balance wants to be achieved.
Out of line? No, I wouldn't say you're out of line. However...
I don't like the idea of quotas of any sort. I can understand that schools can get branded as racist or sexist if they don't have equality of sexes or presence of minorities, but I really think that admissions should discriminate in any way other than evident academic potential. If someone is rejected because they have "too many people like you" and somebody who isn't as well-qualified is let in instead, I think it's unfair to both parties.

I feel this is self-evident - I am not sure how this crazy quota system still exists.
Give weight to the economically-disadvantaged. That makes sense. But gender, race, ... that's absurd.
