Week Four

Week 4? No way! I can't believe we're already at week 4! THANK YOU for your continued enthusiasm and creativity! I very much hope you enjoy this Potter-iffic block!

Reminder: If you DO NOT want to see the block before you make the pattern in order to keep it a mystery, please do not click on the cut! If you leave a comment, you will be taken behind the cut and will see the block...just FYI!

There are alternate directions for a Dark Arts block behind the cut. Please PM me if you don't want to peek and I will send those directions to you.

See! Potter-ific! It doesn't get much more Potter-y (you know, I had to put the hyphen there...) than Harry's glasses! There are more fun things in the weeks to come that will make this quilt more and more Potter-iffic!

List of books from Harry Potter

Alternate Directions
for those making a Dark Arts/Death Eater-themed quilt
Piece "F" and "G" as shown, and replace all other pieces with a 5" (5.5" unfinished) block of your choice, plus a 5.5" unfinished piece of background fabric. Please keep in mind that there will be other blocks during the PoD that have HP stuff in them. Without giving too many clues away, this project is Potter-centric, so you're more or less safe with Dark blocks! Suggested blocks as alternatives: The Hand of Glory, Dark Mark.

We have a lot of new quilters playing along and I want to assure you that you CAN make this block! It is little more intricate than the first three weeks' patterns, but you can do it! Because of the block's size, the pieces are not too small, and as long as you take your time, it goes together just like all the other blocks you've made so far. There are not many blocks in this project that are above a two or a three wand rating. I did that intentionally to keep it fun and relatively easy. Once again...you can do it!

I think I finally, finally (hopefully!) have the pattern scaling issue worked out. The PoD patterns are drafted in EQ7, but colored and numbered in Photoshop. The EQ patterns were coming out a wee bit under sized. Couple that with different printer settings, and the pattern sizes have been all over the place. Your blocks should be finishing at 10.5". If they are not, check your printer settings and make sure "scaling" is set to "none." If your printer allows you do choose "borderless printing" that should take care of it, too. If all else fails, leave plenty of fabric on the outside edges of your blocks and square up the final product to 10.5". The bottom needs to keep the original seam allowance, but the other sides of the blocks can be fudged a little bit if necessary to make up the difference.

Happy sewing!
