Mostly, for me, it's fun to speculate how their parents' and grandparents' roles in the wars might have shaped the nextgen kids upbringing.
Did it make Hermione super obsessed with safety? Do Harry's kids see him as a hero, or resent him? What about Draco, does he raise Scorpius in the same manner he was raised, or did his experiences make him realize that Lucius' parenting methods and wisdom might have been a little skewed? Holy crap, what are Luna's kids like?
How does George cope with the loss of his brother, and how does that bleed into his relationship with his family later?
How would Percy's kids react to finding out their dad abandoned their family for a short period, and would they listen to his side of it? (Crap, I've never written Percy's family, and now I sort of want to.)
These are the questions I seek to answer when I write about the nextgen kids... so... it's less about pairings so maybe you should ignore all this anyway.
So... basically, the only reason the epilogue exists for me is as an excuse to write about the nextgen kids in fanfic, and to completely screw with the canon pairings Rowling left for us.
Most Harry/Ginny, because I'm not a fan. Ron/Hermione, though, I usually leave alone. Usually.
I like my Potter kids evil, and my Scorpius squishy on the inside.
I know I haven't been here in ages, but I just wanted to comment and say... even though I'm happy Harry's happy, I do wish we had gotten a little more, and not because I'm greedy for it. I feel like a lot was left kind of incomplete. What happened to Hermione's parents, 12 Grimmauld Place, the (elder) Malfoys, etc. Not necessary, but I wish we'd gotten a little more.
and of the next gen kids, James Sirius has the best name, imo, named after two flawless bamfs
-I don't hate the epilogue, I think that after all the stuff Harry went through he deserved his happy ending and what he wanted was a family that he loved and he got it and i can't hate on that -i don't like that we went straight from the battle to nineteen years later, though. I would have liked just a chapter in between on kind of the time after that battle at hogwarts. not even too detailed or far ahead, just kind of maybe a couple of weeks after and what they did to rebuild the castle/aftermath/funerals of characters or something. this is pretty much my only complaint -i know people complain that we didn't hear about a lot of people in the epilogue, but to be honest it would have made it way more awkward for them to be like, randomly talking about luna/george/percy's lives just to shoehorn who they married and their careers, since the epilogue is one scene in the future and is still from harry's pov. -"it's me. I'm extremely famous" RON I LOVE YOU FAVORITE CHARACTER FOREVER
Yeah, I could have done with something to effect of those "shining summer moments" or whatever that Harry has with Ginny or that he thinks about at the end of HBP. I wish we'd gotten a bit more in-between in that sense, but I'm also glad to see that some was left out, since the epilogue was such a gold mine of canon information.
