PoD Week 6

Feb 16, 2011 06:46

You made it to week six, well done you! I think you'll find today's pattern fun and easy!

Reminder: If you DO NOT want to see the block before you make the pattern in order to keep it a mystery, please do not click on the cut! If you leave a comment, you will be taken behind the cut and will see the block...just FYI!

There's nothing too fancy going on in this block, but it's a great opportunity for awesome fabrics. It took me ages to decide what would go in the vial, and in the end, I settled on lacewing flies. I only had a scrap of the fly fabric, but it was enough. I'm glad I had it, too, because you never know when you'll need to make polyjuice potion!

Thank you for all the feedback from last week's pattern. The last solution to the sizing problem seems to have finally done the trick. If any of your blocks came out a little too small, I recommend adding a little background fabric to the top and one side. Instead of trying to cut strips the exact size you need, make them a little bigger and then use a large ruler or your cutting mat to square up to 10 1/2". Hopefully, that'll be the end of the wonky sizes!

A few of you have asked if it will hurt your quilt design if your books are pieced out of order to what is directed in the pattern, ie., a book is supposed to be on the right and ends up on the left. As long as the non-book items in your blocks are correct, the books themselves can be rearranged. I do recommend trying to follow the patterns as closely as you can because there will be times when items are propped against books. If the books are swapped around, you may end up with something titled in mid-air without meaning for it to. Other than that, there are only a few blocks that can't be rearranged and I will make sure and make a note when we get to those.

Have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing what you all do with today's pattern!
