While browsing decks of tarot cards, I got the idea in my head to make my own. I started going through mythologies and themes that would be relevant to me, and inevitably I stopped at Harry Potter. Unfortunately, my own artistic skills are limited, but another thought stopped me:

Wouldn't it be great to get all those fantastic fanartists together ( Read more... )

Hmm, if you want it cohesive, perhaps you should group together the artists and they can decide how they want the border to look and then have one artist work on the border (and the you can put the general/card pieces within). ^__^ Or, if you don't want it to be completely cohesive, you can have "general layout"/template for what the borders should kind of look like, and then each card's artists can incorporate their design. *hurls ideas at you*

Hurling ideas = GOOD. I like the idea of a uniform border, as it'll have different art styles, but that's really up to everyone as a whole (daily_snitch should have this up tonight, and there's a bit more pimping to be done and yadda yadda, so hopefully we will have more). I maybe like the general idea with design incorporated too, though...hmm.

Ooh... such a pretty idea! I'm not the talentedest of artists (see my mood theme for a vague idea of what my drawings generally look like), but I'd love to have a go at contributing to something like this ( ... )

Check the info--I've got two very nice links up, one that's a pretty comprehensive look at the cards themselves and another that has images from hundreds of different decks, so you can get an idea of common (or uncommon) symbolism, plus meanings.

I think it would probably safe to stick to a canon-ish area, especially where ships come into play, but again, that'll be more up to the community as a whole. (Incidentally, Lily/James would make a damn good pair for the Lovers card, methinks, as their relationship encompasses more of the breadth of what that card can represent than any other pairing, but perhaps that's just me. Remus/Sirius would work well, too, I think...but that would go into community calls on canon and slash both. So we shall see what sort of group we get...)

I'm not an artist, but I've read a lot about tarot. So I'd be happy to discuss idea for cards.

I think we'll need just as many people helping out with ideas as we will artists. Thanks for the help!

I'm very interested in drawign art, but I'm not knowledgable about the tarot. I think you'd need tow groups of people those to decide what the cards should look like based on the meaning of the cards and thos ewho want ot draw said card. of course, I'm sure there are people who can do both =P

You should also set a standerd size and have a standerd border pre-made (if you wnat a border) as the look of the border can help determine the look of the card.

I'm all about the art part though ^___^
You know *L* We can do this deck without repeating a single character I think =P

It looks like we're going to get plenty of people helping out on both ends, fortunately. There's a couple of links on the info page with some help on the cards, too, so we've got resources to help out.

And I bet we wouldn't have to repeat a character, either.. :D

nasubionna has already begun a project like this, so it will be fun to see what ideas other people come up with.

Personally, I love the idea...I discussed the symbolism of Quirrell as the Hanged Man in my journal a couple of weeks ago, and have thought about several others, as well.

You can click here if you'd like to go see the works nasubionna already has done. She's the one who came up with the idea of Quirrell as the Hanged Man, and she did a beautiful rendition of the card, too. :)

Those are really excellent--she's got a great style for tarot, too. Thanks for pointing those out!
