Oh my. I'm fascinated by the process where you pour paint on and swill it round, and the end result looks like the colours simply couldn't have fallen anywhere else. It's much easier for me to see such possibilities when it's with words! Do you have moments of panic when you think it might have gone beyond recall?
For obvious reasons I am saving this post. It's the light in this picture I love: impossible to look at it and not imagine the warmth of the sun and a friend to share it with. :D
Yay! I was looking forward to you seeing this post. :) Moments of panic, I definitely had them, and I think between the day when I poured on the paint and when I actually started to work on it afterwards there was a long period of just looking dejectedly at it, and wondering how to proceed. ;)But I really liked the unpredictability of it, and the happy accidents when the colours just flowed to where they wanted to be.
Thank you so much for saying such nice things about this painting. I'm so happy to think about it being on your wall and bringing you sunshine and friendship.
This was just gorgeous! And informative to a newbie painter like me! I haven't used masking fluid yet, and I love your technique of painting the negative space. Really awesome -- I'm truly inspired!
Oh thank you, and I'm really happy to have inspired you. Go have fun with those paints!
Masking fluid is widely debated in watercolour circles. I like to use it, but others feel it is too hard to control and prefer to paint around the areas they want white (obviously this was not possible here lol!). And I love negative painting, once I wrap my head around it, it has some great effects. :)
It took much longer than it had too, because after the pouring of the paint, I kinda had to take a couple of days of looking at it out of the corner of my eye before I was brave enough to start painting again. ;)
It's fun to see the piece evolve even though I was there myself when it happened, lol!

I love seeing the intermediate steps. I hadn't realized my badass hair was the effect of dumping paint on the paper.
