a few days ago, my father and i were talking on the phone and we ended up on the topic of the band he formed in the sixties. my mom and dad met while studying at a music conservatory in kansas city, and after getting married they decided to move to los angeles to make it big as rock stars. i've heard both of them refer to this period as a time of ( Read more... )

I have no son-ly bias and I think that sounds pretty damned good.

As a son w/ a father myself, I can't imagine what it's like to get that kind of perspective on one's dad. To me, just projecting myself into your shoes for a second, it feels delightful. Makes me feel a rather sentimental yearning to get that sort of snapshot of my father's world at a young age. (Though that could go depressing too, since his youth was forked repeatedly by fatherhood quite early.)

That's a great idea for a gift, but maybe your search for equipment will make it a father's day one? I guess that's a veiled suggestion. I'd probably try to make something like that a FD gift instead of Christmas.

Thanks for sharing.

Oh - and could you give me a mailing address for you? I have something that may make your departing flight out of Korea a bit more pleasant.

That is, if you think something will get there before you leave if I sent it, say, Monday.

That's really neat. My (uptight, angry, probably not a hippy in the '60s) father used to play the guitar and sing a bit when I was in single digits. Last year I took my parents out to karaoke when they visited SF and whatever he had back then, if anything, was long gone. And here I thought I was pretty bad. Use it or lose it, I guess.

OMG! your dad is WAYYYYY cooler than my dad. Though mine would still be able to beat up yours, no contest.

I think it's so endearing to think of your parents in a band together, like we should take all those gay marriage bills down in elections and put up ones about how you have to be in a band together to get married.

I can imagine the kick ass album cover you will design for the "lost greatest hits."
