Two Saturdays ago I went to my good friend Kevin's Stag & Doe in Hamilton. It was rather bizarre seeing so many people that I went to High School with. I embarassed myself a couple of times when people came up to me and said "Dan remember Me?" Sadly I could not, and they say that the mind is the second thing to go... I was actually pleasantly ( Read more... )

Anything with the word wedding on it has a huge cost.

I agree, that is why I was a little disappointed more money wasn't raised.

I did weddings and birthday parties when i was just starting off DJing many years ago... I got paid £30 from the disco company I worked for, and it was all 60s - 80s tunes and the odd scottish folk song thrown in for the oldies. There was no mixing then, and you were expected to talk copious amounts of drivel between records.

Always scored a couple of drinks free from the bride and groom and parents, though and usually ended up a good night after the buffet was done and the drink started to take hold of the punters.

I'd find it soul destroying to do now to have to play all that crap all night, even for $350.

In all honesty I would rather not do weddings, parties and maybe corporate envents. I know what you mean about soul destroying.

I have a buddy that DJs kids parties and that is pretty much his full time job. He plays songs like Mickey and Mambo #5 and the kids go crazy.

Fingers crossed that the Bhoys put on a good showing tomorrow.

As I keep telling people I know who are planning weddings, anytime you put that word in front of anything the cost triples to say the least.

It can be argued (and I've seen it) that the DJ at a wedding has to put up with a lot of pushy family members and bridezillas looking to have the perfect event.

When I got married, a close friend did the dj-ing as a gift to me, but he only had the hip hop and dance music. I supplied the goth music, with a list of what was appropriate to play in what order. Perhaps you could arrange something similar with your potential clients?

Good point about the bridezillas and the pushy folk. My ideal would be to do 80's themed corporate events.

You've never been paid $350? Amateur. :)

Weddings are really difficult, especially if you know the people and want to do a good job.

Only for sexual services rendered. Come to think of it your last invoice is 120 days past due.

I forgot to email you the name of that show - In The Night Garden.

If you could burn me a DVD of a few episodes, that would be splendid.

It looks like Subspace is cancelled for Saturday, the Bop is still sans liquor license.
