Unjaded

A/N: HAPPY CONVENTIONAL LOVE DAY. Here's a short bonus scene I wrote for Jaded a while back, but I kept it for reasons I'm not sure of. However, today seemed perfect for me to post this. Let me share some lovin' <3

-------

Tiffany wakes up alone in bed, and notices the darkness of the room. She rolls over to Taeyeon’s side of the bed, taking a peek at the clock before dropping herself on the empty space. It’s still early in the morning but her girlfriend is up and about, somewhere in the apartment, hopefully. She huffs, wanting Taeyeon back in bed because it’s cold. She hears the rain pattering heavily against the windows, and the cluttering outside the bedroom tells her that the other girl is still home. She sighs, getting up to wash up and brush her teeth before she checks on what Taeyeon’s doing.

After she's done, she walks lazily out of their room. Her shuffling across the floor catches the attention of the girl busying around in their kitchen. Taeyeon turns, casually greeting her good morning as she places a plate of toast on the small island counter before she reaches out for the empty kettle on the stove.

Tiffany mumbles back a greeting, frowning and wondering why she’s up so early on a weekend but doesn’t ask. Taeyeon’s always been a morning person. She leans against the counter, instead, staring across it at Taeyeon’s back as she goes about filling the kettle with water before placing it back on the stove and taking out Tiffany’s favourite mug out of the cupboard. Taeyeon doesn’t drink hot drinks in the morning, it makes her nauseous, so Tiffany knows Taeyeon’s making a drink for her when her girlfriend starts to scoop coffee powder into the mug. She watches how naturally she makes it; not adding any creamer into it because Tiffany likes her coffee black. She looks at how Taeyeon takes out the peanut butter jar from another cupboard and then some nutella, because Tiffany likes her toast with peanut butter but Taeyeon always prefers the chocolate spread instead.

When Taeyeon turns to face her again to put the jars by the plate of toast on the counter, she smiles when Taeyeon tiptoes and leans over the small counter to give her chaste morning kiss. She tells Tiffany to go ahead and eat first before turning her back again. Tiffany doesn’t move, though, listening to the girl sing under her breath their favourite song, and remembers it to be the song in the background where they first met - remembering how it’s the topic that got them talking.

She still wonders how, almost a year ago, she could have possibly thought she’d ever get tired of Taeyeon, because no one could ever love her better. She’s never been any more thankful she realised how wrong she was, to realise that she wouldn’t have wanted to love anyone else or have anyone else love her either. She’s never been more thankful for stopping herself from making the biggest mistake of her life.

She’s made a promise to herself since then, to never let Taeyeon feel like she’s been taken advantage of, to always make her feel appreciated. If Taeyeon has noticed any changes in her, she’s never brought it up but Tiffany’s seen the gratefulness in her eyes and notices an unfamiliar relief that flashes briefly across her face every time she does something for her- and she realises that maybe all along, Taeyeon had always been worried that Tiffany would grow tired of her and of them. She realises, sadly, that she must have let the girl down a few times for Taeyeon to react that way every time she decides to do something for her instead. Tiffany’s done everything she could since then, to make Taeyeon feel secure about them again.

She knows she has found the best person to love- someone she wants to keep forever if she could. The spark she assumed to have died almost a year ago, has began to grow steadily again, and she realises that love is only what people make of it, that it’s not something that should have been taken advantage of or forgotten. She’s started to see the little things Taeyeon does for her, and her heart grows a little more for the girl each and every time.

“Marry me.”

It takes Tiffany a couple of seconds to realise that the words came from herself. Taeyeon stands still, frozen momentarily before she turns to meet her eyes. She’s confused and honestly, so is Tiffany.  She might have blurted it out at the most random time, having shown no prior signs about taking their almost 7 year relationship to another level, but she isn’t going to take it back -- not when she realises she means it.

She’s always thought that when one of them pops the question, it’d have been thoroughly thought through, and maybe even have a surprise event ready, or at least maybe it could be during a dinner with a romantic atmosphere - possibly even at a beach, under the stars.

Are any of those really needed though? Are they really important because Tiffany looks at Taeyeon, clad in an oversized white shirt with no pants on and bed hair, making her coffee and breakfast without her asking, and she knows right in that moment that she wants nothing more than to have her for the rest of her life. She patiently waits for a reaction because Taeyeon seems to be thinking, so she lets her. She doesn’t look away when Taeyeon searches her eyes, convincing her that she isn’t joking around- that she’d never joke about something like that.

Taeyeon eventually smiles, the softest eyes looking back at her. She runs her hand over her hair - messing it up even more - and Tiffany knows she wanted nothing else but to love her for the rest of her life. Tiffany has no ring, no love song playing in the background, no rose petals on the floor, nor did she prepare a rehearsed proposal speech. She hasn’t even had her hair done, or put on any make up. She stands before Taeyeon only in a tank top and pajama pants, her hair looking probably as ruffled up as Taeyeon’s, and nothing except for her whole heart to offer, and the not so subtle promise of forever. It doesn’t look at all like the right time to propose but she doesn’t want to wait when she hasn’t been surer of anything in her life.

The rain continues to pour heavily outside, and the kettle whistles, but that’s okay because Taeyeon tilts her head just a little, looking at her like she’s the only one that matters - and in that moment, Tiffany feels like she’s falling in love with her, all over again.

“I’d love to," Taeyeon replies softly, her eyes sparkled with so much tenderness that Tiffany knows she'll do anything to make Taeyeon feel as loved and happy as she is, for the rest of their lives.

****

& they lived forever in love. Never the end.

So yeah, I've always wanted to write a proposal like this & it happened to fit in perfectly for Jaded. :>
