Finally Saw The Impossible

Sep 09, 2013 15:25

It had been sitting on my PVR since April and I was never really "in the mood" for it.  Well, Friday was the day, and
every single person in my house cried.

But it was still an awesome movie.

I have Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty and Argo sitting there to be watched when mood and time coincide.

Not sure that I'll ever watch The Impossible, even if it is awesome. A friend and her fiance were separated when the tsunami struck in 2004 and we spent the second part of the the holidays phoning and texting him as he was looking for her.

I also had Lincoln on the DVR for ages. I agree you need to be in a certain mood for that one. DDL is AMAZING in it, though. You almost feel like he has resurrected Abe. For Argo, I had to be in a "I'm going to be gracious to the Americans even though they are tromping all over one of the most revered moments in Canadian history" mood. That took a while.

I can totally understand your hesitation re: The Impossible, given RL experiences. The way the aftermath was portrayed seemed very realistic. What a horrible experience for your friend. I'm not sure I'd want to travel again, were it me.

I regard Argo as fiction inspired by RL.

Unfortunately my friend did not survive. I guess films, even if they can never truly portray reality, if they are claiming to portray real events, the tsunami or events in Iran, they feel real to some extent. Then all the mistakes/things that are different are annoying.

My sympathies in the loss of your friend.
