The Messiah

Dec 08, 2013 22:30

I finally attended a performance of The Messiah.  I have sung the Hallellujah Chorus many times, but had never taken the time to attend a performance of the whole thing.  It was just wonderful and it left me amazed that music composed in the 1700's could give me shivers in 2013.  Somehow I don't think Bieber's version of Mistletoe will stand that ( Read more... )

christmas, personal

Just a flying visit but I had to say I love it - a random act of culture! :) It's been about 10 years since I performed with a massed choir, but up until then I did the full version performance each year, even a few times at the Sydney Opera House. Thank you for reminding me how wonderful this piece is (personal favourite moment at 2:15 - that lovely rest then ... bam! Shivers down me spine!).

Have a lovely Yule!

We're you a soprano or alto? I am an alto and really happy I don't have to sing those high notes. So is it Merry Christmas or Happy Christmas in your part of the world? Either way, joyeux noel :)

It's wonderful how music can reach through time.

Here's another Händel favourite of mine

Gorgeous performance. Counter tenors have this ability to sound almost other-worldy.

Yes, love this performance. I have to admit to being a bit picky when it comes to performances. It's fascinating how different people following the same sheet music can sound so different.

When you have the time, here are two versions of Elgar's cello concerto to compare and contrast (1st movement only, I know you're a busy woman!) As an extra twist it's the same conductor :)
