I know I’m probably wrong about this-but I could see Kara choosing to stay on the planet and fight it out there instead of returning to the Fleet if given the opportunity. On the planet she would be in charge and have no constraints. If she went back to the G, she would have to follow orders and routine. I bet that being a rebel alliance leader is a heck of a lot more fun than being Captain in the military..
She's a Viper pilot at heart, and I bet there's nothing as thrilling as flying down on New Caprica. I really hope we see her back in space soon. It's odd, for all her rebelliousness, Kara seems to like the military. Possibly because for her, it feels like home, and it's a structure she's very familiar with. It's easy to be the swashbuckling rebel when you know the structure and the hiearchy, but I don't really see Kara as much of a born leader. Don't get me wrong, I think she can lead, but I think she's a lot more comfortable leading in the military hiearchy then outside of it. If Kara's the head honcho, the leader, I can see

You know, I wrote this when I was spoiled but hadn't seen the ep. After having seen the Centurions (spelling?) march through the streets, I think anyone willing to stay on New Craprica would be a fool. It's easy to be the swashbuckling rebel when you know the structure and the hiearchy, but I don't really see Kara as much of a born leader. I agree completely. She's not a leader like Roslin, Adama or Lee; however, she's got the Starbuck Myth to fall back on. She is a born strategist and has the kind of courage and bravery that inspires others who don't have to deal with her one on one. Myth and kickassery are great motivators for the common people.
If Kara's the head honcho, the leader, I can see her getting weary of it really fast- especially once people start complaining. True. Kara's shit at dealing,/i> with people. I wonder who is going to fill that "Lee" role in the Resistance? Kara's great for planning and fighting, Chief's great for building, Tigh is great at support details and Roslin will rock at building a grassroots
