How polite is too polite?

I've discovered a problem with being employed in retail, besides the obvious ones that may be jumping to mind right now: because the work becomes routine very quickly, I don't need to concentrate very much to be effective at it which allows my brain to tick over and think about other things in the background. Well, you could be an exception to the rule in that some people working in retail do need to concentrate more on what they are doing. I'm sure I know some people who have fallen into that category anyway.

You're right though, there are a lot of Thank You's and politeness involved in sales.

That's true. I suppose I should have been more specific considering that I meant 'my' end of retail e.g. the person to whom you bring things for scanning. Occasionally I have to answer questions/give product advice but for the most part I make the computer go 'beep' then ask for money. And then in the quiet times I put things on shelves send text messages to the local radio station. Woo!

Still, the job paid for a PS3 and keeps me out the house, so I consider my goals met. :)
