Sanctuary 1x01 and 02

I'm finally getting around to watching Sanctuary just now, because I didn't see any of the online webisodes and I've developed a 'I'll try anything once' attitude to television as of late. And you know, I really didn't want to make any comparisons to 'Stargate SG-1' because I wanted to judge Sanctuary and Amanda Tapping on their own merits, but... ( Read more... )

Just so you know, your lj-cut is not working.

And I was wondering who that cop was!! Knew I recognized him. He needs a hat for me to recognize him properly.

And yes, the snake did look like a Goa'uld.

No worries, I caught the dud cut when I checked if the second one worked okay. :)

On an unrelated note... wow, Amanda Tapping's English accent is kinda painful. :-/ I didn't wanna say it, but it's true! Also you can still hear this weird Canadian undertone going on, so the overall effect is a Canadian woman enunciating all her words really strangely (and carefully).

I know it doesn't work if you have to explain it, but that actually is deliberate. She said in interviews back when the webisodes were going up that the idea is that Helen's speech patterns have shifted over time.

I didn't know for sure if that was just CYA until we got to flashbacks, in which she sounds distinctly different and much more purely English.

She said she's pretty much doing an impression of her mum for the modern stuff.

Come to think of it, I think I remember reading that somewhere too. Still... colour me kinda cynical. :-/ I think I'd prefer it if she just had her natural voice, it sounds much nicer than this new Canadian-with-consonants-that-could-take-your-eye-out version!

To be fair I did notice a difference between modern-day Helen and ye-olde-school Helen, so I suppose I can dig that the accent thing is deliberate.

What does CYA mean?

David was in the webisode pilot. As well as a few other familiar faces that didn't make it to the scifi version.
