Wanted: information about Sydney!

To keep this short, because I'm stealing McDonalds wireless right now: I'm currently in Melbourne but for a variety of reasons it's not really working out and I'm considering moving on to Sydney for one week purely for holidaying (i.e. I'm not even going to attempt to look for work ( Read more... )

Olympic Park and Bondi are dead easy to get to on shittyrail. www.131500.com.au <-- make that your best friend. Our rail network is shit, but simple.

If you want cheap/free stuff to do, go hang out at Circular Quay (own train station) or head up to the Botanical Gardens (Go to Wynyard, get off, straight up Hunter Street and keep going.)

Pitt Street Mall is good - Wynyard is the best train station for that one.

As for where to stay, I'd recommend somewhere outside of the city for cheapness.

Oh.

Parramatta (30min train west) is great for shopping. So is Penrith. (1hr train west)

To go up CentrepointSydney Tower costs money for the very top, but you can go partway up for free. And it's in Pitt Street mall.

There's a lot of Museums in Circular Quay and Darling Harbour (Train to Town Hall, walk to Harbour - can't miss it) is cool. So is the Queen Victoria Building. (TH too).

There's also a scifi shop near the QVB which I mentioned to you before - Galaxy.

If you get stuck in Sydney, give me a holler. I work in Kent Street (Town Hall) and can find you directions to get out of trouble quickly.

I should have replied to this MUCH earlier to say: thank you so much for all your help and suggestions and stuff! :) I really appreciate it, especially since I know you've had a lot of stuff (of both good and bad varieties) going on right now.

I found Galaxy the other day, and was impressed at how much of a scifi book haven it is. Also, they appear to have a surprisingly extensive collection of vampire porn 'romance', which is always a joy. I didn't have the guts/money to buy any at the time, but I'm halfway tempted to find something really trashy for the plane ride to Darwin.

Trashy romances are a necessity of life. Go back and start shopping, woman!
