Stargate Universe: an informal non-poll

Okay, so I'm curious: who on my FL has been watching Stargate Universe, and what do they think of it?

For all my initial cynicism, my reaction to the WTF casting of Robert Carlyle, the jokes about the younger-and-edgier parody from '200'... I have to admit I actually kind of like it. Although I'm not entirely sure why. All I know is that I somehow ( Read more... )

Fair enough. Out of interest: what particularly did you find offensive about it? For me, the main issue was the fact that the only black guy in the show was the one being painted as a psychopath, pretty much dangerously unhinged, but thankfully that's toned down a lot in recent episodes and he's actually somewhat likable now.

The show is certainly far from perfect, but it seems to fill an entertainment niche for me. And yeah, the David Blue thing probably carries it a long way...

Yeah, that aspect is kinda concerning. :-/ It's a shame they've never really tried to address the moral implications of it, just brushed over it, because I think it raises some interesting questions. I think within my own mind I've tried to handwave it with the assumption that the hosts (for lack of a better word) have consented to having their bodies used for whatever, but it's still a bit disturbing ( ... )

Nope, not watching. Couldn't bring myself to watch another farcical show in the SG franchise, when TPTB had so epically ruined their other shows.

Fair enough. Although if you start on the assumption that the show is going to be horrible (as a lot of people have, apparently), then it's not really possible for them to ruin it. ;)

More seriously, though, it is a bit of a departure from SG-1 and Atlantis and the feel is very different, which I think is rubbing some people up the wrong way. At least there's a real sense of continuity now, instead of separate episodes that could be strung together pretty much at random.

I'm about 10 minutes into a Snarkgate review of the pilot episode just now, so if you want I can pass it to you if/when I finish it and you can get an impression of the pilot episode without the pain of actually watching it... and with bonus nitpicking and bitter sarcasm. :P

Reading this was such a great help. Anti aging skin products is such a complicated thing and this article explained it well. Many thanks to this new information.

The aims of acne treatment are to prevent new spots forming, to improve on acne treatment already present, and to prevent scarrings.
