Reid vs virginity bowie28April 25 2012, 20:04:35 UTC
I never believed that Reid was a virgin when the show started (he was 24 in S1) but then I saw this scene in "Naturally Born Killer" where Garcia makes a plumber/coeds porno joke and Reid doesn't get it. It makes me rethink my viewpoint a bit. I know the scene doesn't necessarily mean Reid's a virgin, but it does make one wonder how exposed he was to the subject of sex. I imagine he read a lot and being a scientist he would experiment things with himself. But knowing his childhood, Reid has major trust issues, so I can't imagine him hooking up with random people either. That said, sometimes I feel like he's the kind of person whose intellect allows him to compartmentalize and have fuck buddy(ies) because that way trust doesn't come into play much. Then again sometimes I think he's just not that into it. I mean from the way he kissed Lila in "Somebody's Watching," I won't say he's asexual, but more like sex isn't something he's losing sleep over

I think Reid is asexual in the sense that sex doesn't really interest him. My personal fanon is that he's actually kind of grateful that he's never had these powerful urges, because, really? Profiling is kind of the art of applying sexual urges to murders (at least when the unaub is male, as we are so often told).
However asexuality doesn't mean no sex, ever. It's perfectly possible for someone who identifies as asexual to have sexual feelings towards just one person in their entire lives, and that's kind of how I see Hotch/Reid when I see Reid as being asexual. :-)

I would love it if the writers explore this side of Reid a bit more. They don't need to give him a girlfriend (or a boyfriend, please). Just treat Reid like an adult with human needs and don't have Morgan tease him every five minutes.
More than the slash-aspect, I love the friendship. I want that friendship back! Re-watched.... God. 7.02? The one with the SEAL who had the head-trauma that made him unable to recognize his family? a few days ago, and it was a pleassure to see Hotch and Reid go out together, leaning on each-other's strong sides comfortably, and getting the job done. I mean, I love the rest of the cast, but there's a reason I ship these two. :-)
Also, I'm kind of fond of thinking of Hotch as an emotionally abused spouse. It's not that I dislike Haley, but I find it interesting to play around with.
Their friendship is the best thing about them to be honest, because despite them being opposites in almost every aspect, they find that balance to be completely comfortable with each other without much explanation. I think it's one of those relationships the writers didn't intend to build but their characterizations (childhoods, upbringings, personalities, hangups, etc.) just click and people aren't questioning their bonding back in S1 when Hotch practically took Reid with him everywhere on cases, or in "L.D.S.K." when Reid asked Hotch to teach him how to shoot straight, and of course in S2 when Reid chose Hotch in "Revelations." They always work well together. I love them as working partners in "The Last Word" and "Tabula Rasa." I feel that they're on equal ground when they work side by side, and I love that about them. I'm not keeping my hopes up for the rest of S7 or even in S8 that the writers will revisit their friendship. In fact I'm kind of glad that they haven't touched on that, so their relationship in S1-S4 is still somewhat

The second she made him choose, their marriage was over for me. I mean I get why she did it, I don't blame her for wanting Hotch at home more, but at that point, it was like everything was finally going her way, him being suspended, and she just needed to know once and for all, and I think Hotch needed that reality check too. I agree that things would end up badly either way. Even if Hotch had gone through with the transfer, he would eventually resent Haley and they would end up in a divorce anyway.
That AU sounds so good. I'd love to read it one day. I'd like to see how Reid deals with Neal too, lol. But damn, way too many gorgeous people in one room, how would you ever finish a scene? XD
Okay, anyone seen a repeat of The Angel Maker on A&E or Ion lately? I swear that Emily's line "He's so lifelike" is gone. I noticed because it's a great line and I was watching and waiting for it.... and then she's smiling and they go on. And I'm sure that's been more than one time. Did androids complain to the network? Have I been passing out at the same time everytime it's on? Seriously, just me or has anyone else noticed this?
I didn't but I remember seeing 100 on ION and I noticed they cut most of the phone conversation and Hotch and Haley's last talk. Maybe it has something to do with the network time? I don't know...
Another thought -- Season 4 is far and away my favorite season, with lots of great episodes and hardly a dud among them. Angel Maker, Minimal Loss, Memoriam, 52 Pickup...they're all good!
That was 2008/2009 and since we're now in season 7, it's pretty much half the show's lifetime ago. I watch out of habit and in hope for something good. Tonight will be the season's 21st episode and I may have liked 3. I'm glad I DVD'd earlier seasons. Other favorite seasons or episodes?
Or should I stick with Grimm, White Collar and the first two seasons of Torchwood?
Well, I love pretty much season 3 through 5. Well. Okay, mostly the first half of season 5. I like season 1-2 also, but since I'm not a huge fan of Gideon, that does detract somewhat.
Season 6 was almost a complete loss for me, but since that's been the case for every single show that ever got that far, without exception, I've learned to assume that's just the way of things

At the time I liked Gideon and initially resented Rossi. But after getting used to Rossi (who I now adore) when I see seasons 1 and 2, Gideon just seems very arrogant and entitled.
NCIS seems stable -- nothing too high, but nothing too low.
I'll have to find Primeval, thanks for the recommendation!
I love season 1-4, but mostly because I watched them all in a few weeks. I started watching the show week by week at the beginning of S5, so everything after S4 felt very different to me. I find the cases in early seasons intriguing, and back then the team solved cases with more actual detective works and less lucky guesses. I really liked that about the show.
The episodes I find myself come back to a lot are Tabula Rasa (of course!), Legacy, Empty Planet, The Last Word, Demonology, Cold Comfort. I prefer standalone episodes basically.

"Dr. Spencer Reid, our expert on everything." (Pilot)
How neat is that the first time they had Hotch mention Reid, it was this statement.
