Nothing a little ice cream can't cure.

I went and read Artifice too - both very excellent pieces! Love the idea behind this, and I'm glad he was able to make his voice heard by the Beastie.

I'm impressed he was able to improvise lyrics so fast, myself.

What a terrifying creature, and I liked the idea that he was able to tame it by singing.

I don't know if it was so much "taming" as it was "chatting," really...

This was a wonderful story. I loved the opening paragraph, and the fact that Jin sees his visions in mirrors and reflective surfaces, and the day before leaving for college, he sees the horrific old woman sucking the life out of his mother, a reflection of what? Himself?.

Well, I didn't see it quite so metaphorically...

Sometimes I miss the mark. The nice thing about stories is seeing an unintended interpretation.

I'm all for it. It makes me seem smarter than I am.

"Big day tomorrow. Big changes."

The last line makes me want to jump for joy. It's kind of like the consolidation of big things into small packages that describe big things. All the more mysterious because it sits in the mouth of one who, in this case, is not aware of all that has happened to her. It's a unique kind of flipping that makes me want to read more.

The creature is creepy, but the creepy twists towards the natural order in a way that I hadn't predicted.

I figure that the word supernatural still has the word nature in it, so it should probably have some sort of order to it, whether it's succubi or black-eyed kids or, heaven forbid, a kamaitachi. Monsters don't have to be evil...
