I like this take on the deal at the crossroads trope. I imagine quite a few musicians fit the role of the author too.

It's kind of like the crossroads deal, but instead of an eternity of torment, it's one big torment all at once (plus any guilt and regret that goes with it).

I enjoyed this, especially seeing Rafaela's reluctance to doing magic because of giving it up. Alas, a deal's a deal.
