I just posted my most recent article, and wanted to know what you think about it. Do you tend to at least start to read all of you LJ frinds' posts? I don't mean to be annoying, I just like to get other people's perspectives.
Especially on this one. I haven't read too much about most of the subject matter, and decided to put this out there, mainly to spur discusion within the Socialist Labor Party in regard to it.
Plus I think this ties in with a lot of the stuff we've been commenting back and forth about lately.
ALSO: did you know there has been a call for a Student Strike on September 26 in conjunction with the International Day of Action against the war on September 24? I plan on participating in as much stuff as possible in Chicagoland, and I'm really excited.

I always read them. There's never many, so it's not hard.
I'd read a little about the Chinese and Russian joint military activities before. I like this quote from the article: "Our exercises don't threaten any country," Gen. Yuri Baluyevsky, the head of the Russian armed forces general staff, told a news conference at Russia's Pacific Fleet command in the Far East city of Vladivostok.
You're damned right your exercises don't threaten any country. Although I will say this only helps to reinforce my fears of WW3. Reading of current events usually only disgusts and depresses me, and makes me feel completely powerless, which, of course, I am. The second half of your article is intriguing and I plan on reading the articles you posted later today.

“Peace Mission 2005” is a name that Orwell would be proud of.
Have you ever read Lenin's "Imperialism: the Highest Stage of Capitalsim"? It heavily influnced my critique of the situation.
Comrade! Though I know what you mean, you shouldn't feel powerless. You should feel motivated to study harder, and see how people have struggled to change things.

Unfortunately, I work on Sundays from 12 to 4 at a different library. Honestly, I doubt I would go anyway. I am ridiculously shy and would never put myself in a room full of strangers.

You work at a library? That's so cool! I've figured for a while that a library or a bookstore would be the perfect job for me. That's too bad about your shyness though; why don't you invite your brother and/or cutinhalfblues, and request the Sunday in October off? A personal comrade/friend of mine from North Royalton is listed as the contact for the meetings, so I can personaly vouch for his niceness & what not.

I love working at the library. Actually, it used to be much better. Things definitely went down hill after we got self checkout machines. That used to be my job. The problem with libraries is the fact that it is a business pure and simple and not a community service. I read an article about the future of libraries, and it had a lot of interesting info in it. I think it was the Seattle library that had 67 different rules aimed at keeping homeless people out. And many libraries are partnering with companies such as Starbucks and fast food chains. They're run horribly inefficiently and god knows how much time and effort is wasted on doing stupid shit. The budgets are cut every year, more and more libraries close every year, and yet they squander their money on shit, like thousands of copies of the latest dvds, and 800 copies of the newest Harry Potter. (Not that the library shouldn't buy these things, but they're just going to sit on the shelf and rot after the high initial demand.) One positive thing in that article-there are more
