“I’ve got a war to fight.”

That was no excuse.

She was wet.  Her arousal sparking to a flame so quickly it shocked her.  Not just for its suddenness, but for its inappropriateness too.  This was neither the time nor the place for it, but Gods she wanted him to kiss her.  The feel of his breath on her neck was intoxicating.  Of course ( Read more... )

Thanks for the cheers. I can always count on you to bring it on! ;) It was fun to write a little non-A/R. Sacrilege I know. But hopefully you love me anyway!

I get e-mail updates when you post, so it's always fun times. In truth, I've not had a chance to read a lot of fanfic lately, but you know I love your writing. Tell me a tale of anyone buying Marshmallow Peeps and you and I will be green. :)

Thanks! And come back anytime. Laura and Sam aren't going anywhere. They're quite cozy at the moment. ;)

Didn't get a chance to comment on this in mlh (which is what you get for picking a title that starts with "W", lol), but I really enjoyed this. I didn't think I could buy Laura/Sam, but I totally did in this setting.

She was tired of waiting for what she wanted. What she had almost certainly missed her chance to have.

I love that Laura has doubt about whether she'll ever see Bill again. I know the standard fanon opinion is that she spent the whole time on NC convinced that he'd return, but Laura, more than anything, is human, and as plagued by uncertainty as we all are. Very nice touch.

Also loved that both of them enjoyed the encounter for what it was, and didn't try to make it something more.

Congrats on a well-deserved award!

Thanks for the congrats and the great feedback. I picked this pairing totally on a lark and then realized there was actually something really interesting I could do with them. I'm so relieved and happy that it worked.

I thought it was important that Laura have doubts about being reunited with Bill. Even if she believed that he would come back, she'd still have moments of doubt. Besides, no guarantee that if he came back, he wouldn't be blasted from the sky. I wanted to put her in that frustrated and desperate place.

And, you know, Sam is hot, so she deserved a fling with him, even if only fling! ;)

Whenever I see an unlikely pairing, like this one, I try to keep an open mind. I've been involved in fandom long enough to know that a skilled writer can convince me of almost anything. You managed that with this gorgeous, beautiful story. I bought it, hook, line and sinker. I could see the alcohol, mixing with the loneliness, doubt and desperation to create a situation where this was not only plausible, but inevitable. I think it's so smart that you addressed the Kara and Adama issue too. The two of them are like ghosts, hovering in the shadows, and the story would have felt false and like a bit of a cheat if they weren't present in some way.

Masterful use of fragmented time here. I loved the bouncing back and forth -- understanding how Laura and Sam got to this moment. It worked so well and was totally convincing.

Amazing piece.

Wow, thanks for such awesome feedback. I really appreciate it. I considered making this pairing believable a great challenge, and I'm so excited that it seems to have worked. There are not a lot of fics about Laura on New Caprica after the occupation and I wanted to explore her mindset a bit, but I didn't think I could without Bill being a part of both her hopes and her fears. I appreciate you taking a chance on this and I'm so glad you ended up enjoying it. :)
