I'm on my way to fixing it, I've run numerous scanners and faffed about loads in the registry and I've got rid of most of it, but my browser still opens with some random website on it.
Luckily this sort of thing has happened before at home so I know vaguely what to do, plus having grown up with a dad who's worked in computers for 30 years I tend to pick stuff like this up
Ah you see the little blighters were being clever. It was using the system restore protected directory to bring itself back every time I deleted it. The spyware scanners don't delete stuff from the system restore because it's protected, so it kept on reappearing from there.
Its fixed now anyway. Turned off system restore, ran three or four anti-malware programs to delete various different bits of it, then enabled system restore again.
For the time being at least, it seems to have worked.
I read the email, almost clicked the link and then thought "but that doesn't sound like something Lisa would write..." so thought the better of it. I'm at uni anyway, so it wouldn't be MY pc it screwed, just the uni's...I'm out of here in 7 weeks anyway!
