No inmate of my own at the moment, and honestly considering taking a vacation. When I get back, I'll gladly be someone's second.

I wasn't talking about seconds at all. I was talking about having a list of people we can contact in an emergency. Not to look after someone's inmate, but to let them know you're alright and why you're missing.
More like an equivalent to a next-of-kin on board, and permission to explain to your inmate, rather than a second.

Be prepared to keep that list constantly updated with all the comings and goings. If anyone wants to list me then when I get back, I'll cosign on it.

It might be reasonable to allow people to make exceptions and conditions too, and, obviously, any list would be confidential.

I think the main worry was if someone had taken the parts to do something more nefarious with. The repair, I would have presumed, would have been down to maintainance.

I would have gone and checked myself, but I would probably have put myself in a difficult position if I just walked straight into the women's showers.
