I saw pics of a scratch built Liberty Prime. It was made out of basically a pile of junk, but looked awesome. It's amazing what a creative person can come up with. It would be a chilling army to field. Robots are a tough find. EM-4 and Copplestone Castings make Terminator like robots. GW has Necrons. And a few companies have robot-like models, but they usually require you to do some refinancing in order to purchase them. If I was confident that I could get a bunch of scratch built models, I would probably rely on the EM-4 robots (cheapest) for infantry. Necrons could be useful for some of the more unique machines. It would also be easy to paint. Hell, I'd paint it for you.
As far a sentinels go, there are a few options. There is the movie toy which is around $20 each. These can be found on ebay and amazon.com. I don't know how big they would be though. Another option is Infinity combined army robots: http://www.thewarstore.com/product46071.html They share similar qualities to the sentinels. However, they are expensive :(
Maybe the movie models would work. They would basically operate like battle tanks, so you would only need one or two (and they're already painted). This could be a cheap army for you. You wouldn't need more than 16 infantry (two squads), one or two sentinels and whatever Alicia can come up with. The stats for them in the game would be very powerful, so few numbers would be needed.

Alicia wants to take on the challenge of making some of the bigger models from scratch but squids and regular junk robots would be a nice find.
