Stayed up way too late reading this whole thing. Cried like a baby.
This was beautifully done! The way you took the canon storyline and changed it was really clever. And the emotions of the main characters was so real and so true to them. Poor Neal... ugh, so heartbreaking. And Moz, Peter, and El -- such rockstars, doing everything they could to protect him. Thanks for sharing this!

I have to confess I cried while writing some parts of this as well. And Neal, I know, right? Poor kid. To think that there are so many kids out there that just have to learn to survive on their own and don't have a Mozzie, El, and Peter to protect them.
I'm glad you liked the integration of the story with canon and that it worked.
Thank you for taking the time to read and leave a comment! :)

I had fun reading this. I always find it hard to comment on long fanfictions because I am sure I forget to mention half a dozen scenes I liked but two of my favorite parts were in part 4, when Neal has the nightmare and Peter stays with him even though he can't handle crying and Neal tries so hard to be brave and to only break down in silence - a truly heart-wrenching scene. But then he can fall asleep after the panic attack for once because of Peter which is also really sweet. :)

The other favorite scene is later on when the waitress refers to Peter as Neal's "Dad":
"Do I look like a dad?" he asked Neal half-jokingly.
"I wouldn't know," Neal answered noncommittallyAwwww! The (short) conversation about the topic that follows is really cute, too ( ... )

I know what you mean, I always forget to mention some things in comments to long fics as well. That scene with Neal's nightmare and Peter staying with him is actually one of my favorite scenes too. I know Peter thinks he's really not great at pep talks or comfort, but he manages to do the best he can, and here, I think just staying was the best thing he could do to help Neal ( ... )

This is just... I just... Oh damn... I cried while reading the last scene. Am still crying. Beautiful story and beautiful characterisation and building and... ALright, I'll be off to have a good cry now or something. Thank you for this beautiful story and this happy sad ending.
