This is a beautiful story. You've wonderfully characterized Neal's depression through his insomnia, reckless behavior and anger. The dog is perfect. Bless Mozzie for his understanding and actions, and Peter for dropping everything and coming to Neal when Mozzie asks.
This is a such a moving piece with its pain and want, and sorrow. The part with the dog, I would have turned away and not looked if I had been watching a movie! IT was so brutal and *there*. But well done, I'm glad Neal redeemed himself by taking the dog in.
You hit the prompt so well, thank you so much for this! I'm glad you took it on and worked such a lovely (albeit) painful piece.
I'm really glad you liked it even though it's been a long time since you posted the prompt. I've had a hard time trying to write lately, and this weekend I finally had a chance to finish it before the S4 premiere.
The part with the dog was actually the first thing that came into my mind when I first started thinking about this story. It was brutal to try to write as well (I'm a veterinarian and I really can't believe I did that to a dog!).
Anyway, thanks for a great prompt and for your thoughtful comment! :)
I guess I figured that's pretty much how a real friend acts when his/her best friend need him. They just drop everything and go do something to help. Peter would definitely do it for Neal (and vice versa). I'm glad you liked it and thanks for the comment! :)
