A couple weeks ago, I recorded a band called Brighten Up. It was a cool experience for me as they have a much different setup than I'm used to working with. 2 synths, drumpads, floor tom, snare, cymbal, guitar, lots of looping and lots of effects. It turned out really well and I'm stoked on the band. Very droney "experimental" electronic stuff ( Read more... )

I'm so sick of dealing with everything associated with playing music with more than 1 person

This is the point of book club. I, of course, understand the impulse to hate, but I contend that it's entirely unproductive. Rather than never getting what I want because people are idiots, I want to always get what I want because I understand how people make decisions.

People make decisions based upon emotion and a variety of heuristics*, rather than logic. I've been reading a lot of books about social psychology in order to try to understand the types of unconscious decision-making processes that people use. I've always had trouble with relationships in which I rely on anyone else to any extent, so I've been trying to figure out how exactly people are operating, rather than falling back into the "man everyone is such a fucking idiot" trap that I've been stuck in since like sixth grade or whatever.

Would you like more divulgenece?

*I don't mean that this is a bad thing, as intuition and gut feelings often outperform carefully considered expert opinion in many areas. If you're feeling literary, give Gut Feelings by Gerd Gigerenzer a read. This is one of our current book club books.

is the music store reachable my the metra? that would be a good way to relieve stress in your life, taking the train and gazing out the window listening to Eno on your iPod, rather than driving out there and dealing with draconian Chicago land drivers.
