I really want to try to replicate Alister Parker's (The Gordons/Bailter Space) guitar tone. The first Gordons record actually. It is the best jangly post-punk tone I've ever heard. His playing is a big part of it, as well as his floating bridge. He's just bashing all the strings and for a split second after ever stroke, it almost sounds out of ( Read more... )

A bonus DVD came with the special edition cd (because I still buy cd's sometimes). I'm pretty sure there are clips on Youtube however.

You already know these things already:

1. Jangly = high gauge strings tuned low

2. Probably used a 58 to get a different tone out of the HH than the rest of the cymbals. Don't 58's have a slight high end peak up around 8k?

1. Already know that dad, more concerned about a particular breakup in his distortion however, also floating bridge is a possibility.

2. I'm pretty sure 58's have a peak around 1.5k, which (I would think) would make for a very harsh hi-hat recording. Most dynamic microphones have a more aggressive upper mid-range, which is why everyone likes them on drums and heavy guitars.

It's pretty amazing when I regard Crack the Skye as their worst album. Says a lot about their stuff. The first three official releases are interchangeable in my opinion. If I didn't know anything about them, I would believe it if somebody told me that any one of them was their first, second, or third. I caught a drumstick at their show in May 2007, too bad I went alone because nobody likes cool music, and thus had no one to share the moment with; just a million kids playing king of the mountain on top of me trying to wrestle it away.

I've always wondered if coffee shops used cold or hot coffee to make their iced coffees. Is it cold before it's even poured over the ice?

When you say first three official releases, does that mean you're not including Lifesblood? So Remission, Leviathan and Blood Mountain? I'm kind of astounded that those are interchangeable to you.

I'm pretty sure coffee shops have a separate supply of refrigerated coffee for their iced dads.

yeah, I don't know. I didn't start listening to them right off the bat, so it wasn't like I bought a CD and had two years to listen to it before the next one. Deep down inside, I think I like Remission the best. I've got Call of the Mastodon, whatever you would call that, but it's a little raw and unpolished for me. Remission and Leviathan are kind of fused together for me because I heard Leviathan and then bought Remission as soon as I could find it. Blood Mountain took some time to grow on me, but I dig it. That one feels different from Remission and Leviathan if I had to pick. And then CTS is different from them all. I'm glad that they are getting the recognition that they have, because I wouldn't really expect it for a band like theirs. I do have to say, however, that I think their individual guitar tones kind of sound like garbage, but I like what they make together.

My family (ok, parents plus myself and Mark) went to the Oakbrook car show as well! My dad's boss always has a couple cars in there and it's usually pretty decent. Saw I guy I went on a date with a few years back with his dad, awkward!
