Been a while
So, I've been working through the summer at the Charlestown Navy Yard, which has been great. Finished my Master's degree, too. I start Officer Candidate School 28 September, 2008 - if I graduate on time, which I probably won't (but I'll try anyway), I would have my commission as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy 19 December, 2008. Whoa. -

Well, I did it. On Jan. 10 at around 11:30, I swore my oath and signed my contract. I'm now an Officer Candidate in the United States Navy. -

Got the call today - cleared medical and security, so we're just waiting for my final selection letter. Should be waiting for me when I get home from England, at which point I'll make the arrangements to come in and swear my oath and sign the contract, at which point I'll be an Officer Candidate, payrate E-5. Almost done with this semester - just one more and I'll be finished with my Master's degree. Working for the Park Service was great, but they had to let me go - end of the season, so they couldn't keep me on. Looking for work in this town sucks ( Read more... ) -

Damn, this summer has gone by real fast. I'm headed to MEPS next week, finally got the go-ahead for that. My name was submitted to Congress for approval for final selection for a commission - apparently, that's a good thing.
Work is good, class is good. New apartment is good. Not much else to say, I guess. -

My recruiter called today - I was professionally recommended for Surface Warfare Officer! I'm so damn excited, I was jumping around all over the damn place... still haven't heard about Information Warfare, which would be my first choice, or Supply Corps, but I'm still really pumped. It's August, and it's really hot. I have no idea how I'm going to move at the end of the month. My Navy application is done and is currently waiting for the next selection board to meet (which will be later this month). Well, I'm enjoying working for The Man, anyway. This is already shaping up to be the best job I've ever had, I think... even the drudge-work of sitting at the Visitor Center desk and helping clueless tourists is a blast. I've got my Federal ID card, my nifty gold badge, and a few other neat things, and my uniforms should be in next week. Thank ( Read more... )
