Restlessness and discontent are the first necessities of progress.

I have been giving the idea of a strike some more thought. I am convinced that with a carefully honed message faxed out the various Boston newspapers and radios, along with NPR, CBS, etc., you could get national news attention. It would be impossible for the administration to ignore you. Add in your parents, and you could control the Board of ( Read more... )

I think before you start to gather the attention from national broadcasters and even parents and the school board you would need to see who you have support from (in the school). From there you need to create a mission statement or a set of demands ( ... )

I totally agree with you and I tried to do that. But we have people like Jenn Soini and Kate Stead in my grade who are too fuckin' stuck up to listen to their peers. It won't work. It doesn't work.

We have 72. It's lame. And it's not just Jenn and Kate, it's their whole group which makes up a good chunk of our grade.

????why tho????? Really it's just going to create more drama.....thats the LAST thing this town needs....It's a small town. Half of us will be gone the second we graduate. Just my view on it.

Its not drama when it is important.

We're talking about a child's education here...not just about who kissed who last weekend.

Can you really say that this isn't a problem when the percentage of students who pass the MCAS in a given school is directly related to the socio-economic class of the town?

A concerned parent... anonymous March 23 2004, 11:06:50 UTC
I am the parent of two gradeschool kids. I want to help. A friend of mine told me about these postings. I think you would be surprised by how many parents in town know about and read this site, and would also be willing to help. Show us you care, and we will come out to support you in numbers. If things stay the same here, we will probably send our kids to a private highschool too when the time comes.

You can't possibly understand how happy I was to see this comment. I am so glad to hear that there are adults in the community who are concerned as well. I am thinking that it would be a good idea to spread the word--get all the adults, students, and other concerned people, and set a place and time to meet and talk about this, and perhaps begin working on a plan of action. As students, we can only get people thinking...but we cannot make the real difference of voting. I'm a senior, but not old enough to vote. It's sad to see that the majority of my peers who are old enough to vote aren't registered.... So while the students can definitely get people to pay attention to the state of our school system, it's pretty much up to the adults in the community to make the actual difference. If you're interested in getting people together, I'm sure there are many people who would be willing to come together to promote this cause.

I am also glad that parents care, but find out from your child not from a livejournal were the purpose is to basiclly vent and have a forum with their friends, not so they can post and have their parents read it.....

With much respect....

So guys, what can I do to help? Do you want more time to figure out if and what you want to do, or would you like a broader forum with parents to discuss this in person? Happy to help in any way that I can.

Hey.
Before you do any action..you may want to double check the amount of funding Boston schools get and how much funding Lawrence gets. That may not be the direct problem. I know that Lawrence schools get a lot of funding...its just what they do with the money that is the problem. Same with Boston schools...some fo the boston schools are great schools. Just double check before you do anything. I dont know any of the statistics or anything...

Ok well first off why would you blame this on Mr. Fox. It is his first year here and i'd have to say he is a great improvement. Thats a pretty lame comment to say about a man you have no idea about?

What has he contributed? What are solid things he has made improvements on? What rights has he given you as a student?

ps. I dont think anyone is blaming this on Mr. Fox.

::clears throat:: And I quote "This scrutiny would probably cost Mr. Fox his job, or at least some deserved humiliation."

What has this man done to make this school worst. I am very thankful of the role he takes and also he is only the vice principal or as others would say assistant principal. Wouldn't you think it would be more Mr. Luca's fault due to his role in our scholastic education? I am not unhappy with either of them they are a greater improvment than what we just recently had last year. I see no downfall I see them both trying to do what they can in what 7 months of school with as Jen said the limited funds that Bush is distributing to the public schools.

For someone who doesn't go to G-Town schools (icanseeformiles) you sure have a lot of comments about the administration, I agree with the fact that they need to do more but give the new administration time they are doing what they can, with the time they have, with the financial support they have.
