Restlessness and discontent are the first necessities of progress.

I have been giving the idea of a strike some more thought. I am convinced that with a carefully honed message faxed out the various Boston newspapers and radios, along with NPR, CBS, etc., you could get national news attention. It would be impossible for the administration to ignore you. Add in your parents, and you could control the Board of ( Read more... )

Ditto to everything Logan said! ....how many parents are reading this???

Another thing is we are JUST Georgetown....if they are going to do something about our education system then they are going to have to do something about EVERY other towns system....as you can guess that idea is far fetched.

Do you not understand this?

Thats the point. Public education all over Massachusetts and the US is not up to par. Bush is spending billions on the war but why isn't he able to put just as much emphasis on education?

You're right. This is a much bigger issue. But you need to start somewhere.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is icanseeformiles March 23 2004, 20:20:26 UTC
I think a key to getting this to work is to make it personal and unavoidable to the parents. That would be far tougher to do across town and economic borders. Look at your first reaction to me - you thought I was rich kid butting in where I didn't belong. Nick is still mad at me - probably rightfully so.

The ability to affect change in Lawrence is likely to be far greater if you set an example in Georgetown for the students and parents in other towns to follow.

Just to add to what I last said I think the new Admin. is doing a decent job at what they have to work with but I know they can do better... and I definitely think for some of next years classes they need to re think the budget I definitely think AP Bio is WAY more important than Exploring Early Childhood... getting stupid babies that cry is going to be just as expensive as the $3,000 to get an AP Bio class...

We have more than a few parents in this town that work for biotech companies. My hope would be that starting a movement that involved parents could bring in the money to do both. What if you could raise money or equipment from through donations from a few biotech companies, and maybe have them sponsor a moleculear biology lab? I suspect you would have the best AP bio class in the state.

I agree that AP Bio is very important, don't get me wrong. But at the same time, an Exploring Early Childhood class would be great to have and I wish they had that when I was there. It's a great way for kids to explore a possible career choice (if that's what it's about...sort of like an intro to early childhood). And I think that the comment about "stupid babies that cry" was slightly unnecessary. Besides, not everyone wants to take AP Bio so it needs to be taken into account that other classes need to offered that offer students an alternative course that they are interested in.

Im not even going to comment fully on this because it isnt really worth my time....

But If you would have read through all the posts yourself you would realize my who post wasnt directed towards you....thats just how you took it I guess, if it was directed at just you I would have stated that. On 3 I was saying in general people in this town make WAY to much out of things....such as this whole post! In my mind its rediculous! Thats my opinions and I am more than entitled to it. If you want to do something about it...then do it! Stop with all the talk, its just creating tension. Thats all! My post was just put out there....dont take things so personally.

Thats the point I was trying to make! There are sooooooo many other schools that could use the help instead of Georgetown. We have a decent education....I am happy with that! Look at all these other schools where it is sad to look at what they have....then you look here and its even more sad to see people that live in this sheltered little town complaining that they want more. That just bothers me I guess! But the point you just stated is how I am thinking!

You have no idea what you are missing out on. The opportunities, the wonder, that this world has to offer are vast. You may be content with digital cable as your sole exposure to the world, but why limit your friends?
