Title: Safe With Me - 11
Pairing: Hikaru Yaotome X OC
Rating: PG
Summary: She runs away from the storms of what once she called home. Good girl gone bad.

Previous Chapter

She heard a knock on her door. This signaled lunch for her bed-ridden self. It had been 4 days, 2 days in the hospital and then another 2 days at home, which reminded her that she was back in the city, back to being imprisoned again, back to a fatherless house, she couldn’t even call it home. The doctor told her to stay a couple more days under the roof and suggested to talk to friends. She was then reminded; she didn’t have any…because she never had true ones and because he didn’t count as just a friend.

He thought he was kind of lost but when he saw the huge gates in front of him, and a long lane of luxurious cars, he knew he was at the right place. The subdivision was known for keeping and hiding celebrities and politicians from the public. This just made him a hundred percent sure, this was where she lives.

He walked further and tried to look around but the guards were giving him a glare that suggested they were mistaking him for Paparazzi or what.

He sighed and walked away. All he wanted was just to know if she was doing fine.
__

If boredom could kill, I would have long been dead.

And I don’t need the doctor to tell me that it was not helping, not talking to anyone. I could imagine myself going crazy.

Nothing in my body hurt. They were just over-reacting to the point of taking me to the hospital.

I was and am fine. I just broke down. Too heavy emotions, that was all.

But all this is funny, because Daddy would be coming home on the weekend.

Do I have to take a hospital trip for Daddy to realize I exist? Oh please, spare me this.

It just makes things worse.

The weather was better today. Not too sunny but not to cloudy, just the right mix for a stroll in the park or a date perhaps.

And then something crazy took over my brain.
__

It was but then another easy escape.

She had been using the same escape route ever since and until today; it was a mystery to the guards and the housekeeper how she could find a way out of the subdivision.

She was no celebrity, just a diplomat’s daughter, so she did not fear for the Paparazzi. But she always had to be extra careful about it.

His place, on the other hand, looked peaceful and harmless.

She was smiling to herself while pressing that door bell. She knew all it would take for her day to end well was to see him…again.

She was still grinning when the door opened but her grin disappeared and was replaced by creasing eyebrows. She looked at his door number, it was the right room but the boy standing in front of her made her doubt it again.

“You’re Ren right?”

She didn’t want to answer any of his questions.

“Of course you’re Ren. Unless he’s been fooling around.”

She was uneasy with this unfamiliar, too personal approach, but from the way the boy answered, it was definitely Hikaru’s apartment.

“Where is Yaotome?”

The boy just gave her a smirk and decided to let in the confused lady.

For a kid like him, he sure has some manners left, she thought.

He told her Hikaru went out to buy groceries and made a remark that this was unusual because he lived on fast food.

She could only giggle to herself.

The mood got better when the boy chose to shut up and just continue watching TV. She thought maybe he didn’t want an uneasy atmosphere too.

She made a mental note. The kid was maybe nice, after all.
__

I heard footsteps outside. Just that and then my heart beat like crazy.

Whatever with cheesy. I just missed him so much.

I was about to stand and open the door for him but the other boy beat me to the door and was now kiddily punching Yaotome.

It was surprisingly cute to see them like that.

They’re kinda close, okay.

And then he finally noticed my presence.

I smiled.

He shoved the little monkey away.

“Namikawa!”

“Hi. I was just roaming around and decided to drop by your place, since I was just somewhere near.”

My lying skills were rusting. I could even hear myself pausing in between words.

“Are you alright now? Aren’t you supposed to like rest or something? Sensei said you would be okay in a week.”

“I’m fine, really.”

“Ehem.”

The monkey was being annoying already.

“Don’t I get to be introduced to the beautiful lady in front of us, cousin?”

Cousin, right. His cousin’s a bully, for all I know.

“Namikawa, this is Chinen Yuri. Chi this is-“

“The one and the only Namikawa Ren. Yoroshiku~”

I just bowed, out of common courtesy.

We all went inside and settled on the sofa when Yuri grabbed his scarf and announced that he was already leaving.

Part of me wanted to shake his hand; it’s better that he leaves if he’s such a pain in the neck.

But part of me wonders if he doesn’t like me. Why leave so early? What did he come here for?

“I’ll just drop by again when you’re not so busy about your-“

“Could you just shut up for once?” Hikaru was already dragging him out.

But Yuri was still noisy up to the door.

“It was nice meeting you Ren! Come by often so that this dork will stock food in the fridge!”

Talk about awkward.

He shut the door in his cousin’s face and wished none of what just happened, happened.

“I’m sorry for that. He gets too excited about the city and all.”

He sounded hopeless, helpless.

“Nah, it’s okay. I actually find it amusing, you guys are close. I don’t even get to see my cousins.”

He heard that but tried to change the atmosphere by offering her cola.

This was the time when they finally had a chance to look at each other properly.

And why wasn’t it awkward?
__

He was staring at my face.

“You still look pale though.”

“Eh?” I tried to look for a mirror.

“It’s fine. You still look beautiful.”

It wasn’t even that hard for him to say.

I couldn’t help but feel all giddy inside. I bet my cheeks were blushing too much.

I tried to pull off all honesty that was within me into a light conversation.

I didn’t want to be a drama queen.

“I probably came by not only to obviously see you, but to thank you too. You’re the only person I know I can trust here. I’m bad with lines, help me out.”

“You’re welcome?”

“That’s it?”

He laughed and then sat beside me.

“I’m glad you came over. I was so worried what happened to you after that. Funny coz I still don’t have your number and I had to ask Sensei if he had your address.”

“You stalked me?”

“Did not!”

It was my turn to smirk.

Things were always better this way.
