This is wonderful - the format you chose to tell the story is the perfect method of delivery, the content itself is fantastic and yet rings emotionally true on many levels, the little details help bring it all to life. *applause*

You write neat things in neat ways. I'm a fan. :)

Oh my word thank you. You spoil me with ridiculous praise :P

This piece was quite difficult, honestly, I started and scrapped about three different other versions of it. The epistolary format rang most true to me, but something about Jonathan writing letters back home just didn't seem to work. And every time I tried to get away from the epistolary, the story cracked under pressure within half a dozen paragraphs.

It only clicked when I hit upon the idea that of course Jonathan wouldn't be writing letters, he'd be doing a vlog!

I liked this very much! And I'm intrigued that it's "mildly autobiographical", though I'm sure it's not as glamorous as it sounds :p

Haha, thank you. And yea, it's not glamourous at all; that's kinda the point, no? :P

Basically, I had to learn the same lesson Jonathan did, for my chosen field. I didn't have a Captain Meredith to knock it into me, though, but I still count myself lucky at having wasted only at most a couple of years on what would always have been a severely unrealistic assessment of the problems involved.

Still, past that now, and I understand much better how much of a life's-work thing I have to be prepared for, so onwards!
