We really need to, as a culture, move away from the idea that if you're not having sex, something is wrong with you. (The message is not "If you're not having as much sex as you'd like, something is wrong," which I think is also problematic but considerably less so ( Read more... )

Also, this attitude, coupled with "If women have sex outside of a marriage, they're irreparably dirty" school of thought makes being a woman a lot of fun, let me tell you!

All very awesomely valid points. Interesting how some of the worst things for people appeal to their more mammalian aspects (overeating, sex, violence)?

I agree and disagree. So I'm horribly unlikely to seek out sex with someone. But should I want to have children through that means, or find someone who wanted sex and I loved him and so I'm doing it to make him happy and I'm comfortable with that, then while I don't necessarily want the sexin', I don't... DON'T want it. If that makes sense ( ... )

Amen, sister! Seriously, though, you bring up great points (and some of the reasons why I'm so frustrated and disgusted by society at times).

I think it's even worse being in college, or at least, an undergrad, what with the whole stereotype of the "college experience".

I second this! People's thoughts about me weren't even related to me Not having sex, but because I was monogamous throughout college (and still am). (start sarcasm)Obviously, I can't be happy with just one partner. :-P (sarcastic voice ends now)

Isn't the American way (at least in my line of thinking) kind of deciding if you want to have sex or not for yourself? I mean so long as your sexual desires don't involve really hurting someone else.
