I think fan videos on youtube are the electronic equivalent of writing "I heart misc.celebrity" on your notebooks. Anyone with me on this?

PS: my haircut continues to worsen...

Even funnier are the fandom videos of imagined or desired romantic pairings from TV shows and movies (Harry Potter and Hermionenenene, Grissom and Sarah, etc etc). They're the equivalent of shouting, "All of my romantic fantasies revolve around other people! Other people who aren't even real! Other people who ARE NOT ME!" in a crowded room. Way to prove to the world that you're wildly dysfunctional.

i'd love to see some damning academic work on the subject - of course i would definately NOT like to undertake such a pomo journey into the heart of cyber darkness myself ...

I'm not a vidder, but I do have a vidder friended. Vidding strikes me as similar to fanfic -- there's good and bad, you can explore canon from a new angle or go off in a wildly different direction. Anyway, here's somewhere to start on the "Why?" of vidding.

(I don't write fanfic either. There are many fannish activities where I am on the sidelines looking on in either bemusement or sympathy...)
