We went to McCoy Tyner tonight and I must say I was disappointed. Not in the music, but the man. The trio was excellent and Tyner was everything he had been built up to be. Further, after talking about this with some other musicians, the more I realize that McCoy was probably in the right on this. I mean, if the piano was that bad the fact that he went on and played an hour (which, by the way, is what you can expect to pay to hear him play for an hour in most venues in major centers) is actually pretty good.

Was the festival expecting him to play 2 sets? Was that what he was contracted for? Did Dave Holland play 2 sets? Just curious.

I bet Dave Holland was freaking awesome. That's probably the premier regularly touring contemporary small jazz group in the world.
