Hi fellow icon makers, it's 4 four months into 2013, and so I thought I would do a sort of progress meme things as we had one similar last year plus it would be nice to get some conversation going in this comm. So explain your favourite icons & techniques you have made, managed and loved also your worse and your areas for improvement

Your text icons are always gorgeous and I love how daring you are with colour.
I don't know who these guys are but this icon of yours has to be my fav, the colours and text spot on.

That's Bo Burnham. He's an american comedian and I am obsessed with him and know all his songs by heart and I am not even a native speaker :D *ok fanboying out*

What are your 5-10 personal favourite icons you have made so far in 2013?

It's funny how you've classed that Sookie icon in your least faves because I think I've it saved to my inspirational folder. I like it's simplicity and lighting and, on my monitor at least, it's perfectly sharpened.
I have to agree with you about text though, all the icon with it in your faves batch are stunning, stunning stunning.

What are your 5-10 personal favourite icons you have made so far in 2013?

Lol, I know the feeling about wanting to post everything you make even if it's better of scrapped. I think everyone gets like that sometimes especially when you've put so much work into them....
That being said, I think you're on the right path with composition. #1 of your favourites is beautifully put together and the monochrome was a good choice for that icon. With regards to blocking, naginis has a great guide here and twinstrike has one here. If you haven't already seen them then I'd definitely suggest checking them out, they may prove helpful :)

I've also started getting over my ridiculous notion that I have to post every single icon I make, however disastrous they are, although I still have issues with this clearly! :P

I feel you there. it took me quite a while (and sometimes I still go whatever) to decide that even if I could go "well... it's made, someone might like it" or "but i spent sooo much time, let's just put it up anyway", that there where some things that were better left to die on my folders. it was quite a revealing moment.

Seriously, I feel your pain. Sharpening an icon is like the bane of my existence and I think that there are a lot of makers that feel that way. That being said, I think #2 of your least faves list is very pretty. I love the simplicity and the lighting and the soft, dreamy feel to the icon.
Also, you are obviously some sort of text goddess because 2 and 3 of your faves list are stunning, stunning, stunning!!

I go back and forth with sharpening. no it's too much. no it's not enough. no. no. it's mostly always no. LOL. I'm just not in control of it and it annoys me.

What are your 5-10 personal favourite icons you have made so far in 2013?

2, 3 and 4 of your faves list are gorgeous, gorgeous icons :) Also I like the ideas behind 1, 5 and 6 of your least faves list. I think that 1 would have worked well if you cut of the subject and put a bit of negative space around her. I'm not sure where that cap is from but there is some serious hairporn going on and I think that type of composition would have showed that off better. 5 and 6 are pretty great, maybe a darker background on 5 and more contrast on 6? It just seems to me like they're not that far off from being really gorgeous icons :)

Also I think that consistency comes with practice so I hope to continue seeing you around the icon community, I think you have some really nice work :)
