Okay, so this is a rant that's been building up for a while now. Like months.

Yes, the pink coloring that's been going around lately is pretty. I'll even admit that I like it, too, sometimes. As in occasionally, mixed in with other icons that have different colors. You know, like rest of the rainbow/color palette? But I am really, really fucking ( Read more... )

I... agree with pretty much everything. Icons definitely shouldn't be coloured exactly the same, as most of the colouring methods that are popular don't work for all images, and it's usually best if you work with the natural colouring of the picture instead of radically changing it.

That's probably because back when all of us were n00bs, we did that coloring too. Dark blue exclusion layer, brown multiply layers, pink color burn and soft light... it's just modified now with selective coloring etc. I totally figured that out the other day and went "OH, THAT is why that coloring that EVERYONE USES looks so damn familiar". LOL.

I've been wanting to say that about the pink coloring and light blobs for AGES. So thank you.

I am very guilty of the first one. I don't make icons much anymore, but when I used to all the time, I would use the same coloring to death. Usually, it was because it worked with the pics from that scene/movie/photoshoot/etc. I see a lot of it, but it doesn't bother me.

I don't find anything wrong with using a specific coloring more than once if it works for the image, because I've done that too. But when it's a certain method of coloring that a lot of other people are using, too, AND it's the same for every icon in the batch, then it annoys me.
