What's up with all the textures?

I'm not hating on textures for real. But it seems like everyone has stopped making brushes and started making textures. I don't get it myself. They are just cropped pics, anyone could do that themselves.

*edit*Sorry if I seem to have insulted texture makers. I'm just going on what I've seen posted as textures ( Read more... )

I believe the OP is referring to the majority of the textures being promoted in comms right now (i.e. ffffound textures).

Some textures are made from scratch and require a lot of creativity and ingenuity. I feel like maybe textures are easier to make or use? I don't know the reasons for why textures versus brushes, but whatever floats everyone's boats.

I love brushes and things like that made from scratch. I think they do so much more for an icon than an image from ffffound. It's a pity, really.

Textures can be used regardless of what program you are using. So I suppose in that respect they are a lot more user friendly. Personally, I find you can get more use out of a texture than a brush.

And ffffound is giving textures a bad reputation. They should not be 100x100 squares of someone else's work. I fie on the day that site came to be >:C

I think ffffound is actually a great site if you use it for what it was created, a bookmarking place to look at good art and find inspiration. As with most things, it's the people who make it look bad, in this case those who don't know shit or refuse to learn about copyright and creating something yourself.

... *TWITCH*

Personally, I find textures are less obtrusive and give a more unified look to an icon. But then, I prefer my icons look uncluttered, so.
