The magican; 'wizard', right, he 'casts spells', right, he can turn you into a frog; what the hell is this? To what does the magican here connect to? What does 'magican' mean, anyway? It means 'One who knows'. Is this an innate knowledge? Surely the description of every wizard mage and sorceror in fiction and history is better termed as 'shaman'. ( Read more... )

My belief is that Flax actually is the Darkness. He is engaging in a clever play to assure that will never again be targeted by such magics.

So, just so you know, any time I try to click on your comment page my IE friggin DIES on me. Usually I put it out of its misery, but this time I got distracted and came back like 10 minutes later to find the page had actually loaded.
This is riveting info that you simply must have.

Um. I completely agree about the magic thing, even though the reason this rule is hardly ever respect is part of the reason I have read maybe 3 fantasy books in my life. Also the tag is appropriate.

I was going to say what brendanfaux noted, really; magician/wizard/anything else which derives from something related to "to know" or "wise" refers to the Guys Who Know More Than Everyone Else. It's related to Shamanism in so much that shamans normally achieve their power and influence from knowing spirits and being on good terms with them - sort of Guys Who Are More Popular Than Everyone Else (with Spirits).

So what you're saying is you want to play Mage: The Awakening or Mage: The Ascension, or possibly Unknown Armies.

Flax playing Unknown Armies is, in and of itself, criteria for somebody getting ascended.
