Yesterday I grabbed breakfast at the Brazilian bakery, where I don't stop very often because it's somewhat but not quite on the way between home and campus. I had a bean cake then and I'm eating a coconut muffin right now. SO GOOD! It's pouring out, I've finished my errands, and I'm sitting inside drinking tea, reading Sarah Waters, and going "whoaaaa" at these over-the-top Dior show photos. (Not that I follow fashion in any way, but...whoa.) I love cozy rainstorms and the long weekend before classes start.

I am not a big cabbage eater, so I bought some at a farmer's market last week just to see what I could do with it and have some variety. Yesterday I sauteed most of it "Indian style" and there was a massive amount leftover from that recipe, so today I added just a little flour and an egg and made a latke-type thing (inspired by okonomiyaki. I'm back in Providence, and coming back felt like coming home. I did not expect this to happen so quickly.

Made it home despite the snowstorm. Nothing whatsoever to report, just a constant coffee drip, cooking with Dad (totally random stuff from gingerbread to lengua tacos), running, zoning out in front of the tv, and going to bed early. Not a bad life for a week ( Read more... )
