MLA (no, not the modern language association but the museum, libraries and archives council) have a list of the 30 books that a panel/commission/group of librarians voted that every adult should read before they die. Here is the list with strikes through those i have pwned.

1. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
2. The New Oxford Annotated Bible3 ( Read more... )

The His Dark Materials books are really good. You should at least give the first one a try. See if you like them.

The Lovely Bones and The Master and Margarita are supposed to be really good, too.

I think i should read The Master and Margarita next as it is a fun transition from Doctor Faustus (Satan and Germany; where The Master and Margarita has to do with Satan and Russia).

Think i will skip His Dark Materials ans i really am trying to stay away from Fantasy novels lately. They seem to have no pull in me for some reason.

The Master and Marguerita is the best book ever...if you get the right translation. Some translations really suck. So much that is seems the book is boring.

Lord of the Flies is a book I'm glad I read, but wish I hadn't. It's...macabre.

Middlemarch is also an awesome book. As is anything by Jane Austen.

Jane Eyre is very good, but I preferred Wuthering Heights by her sister Emily and even Agnes Grey by her other sister Anne.

i sorta found wuthering heights to be long and a bit slow. looking back i almost feel like i forced myself to read it and have very little memory of the story. i think i am gonna read one day in the life..., master and margarita and slaughterhouse five next. not sure on the order as of yet.

Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books. Life of Pi was really good too. I would recommend it. I didn't like the Poisonwood bible much. It was pretty popular a year ago or so. What do you have against Steinbeck?

Ohh, I've actually read a decent portion. Time to steal for my own journal. :P
