I'm not sure I've ever agreed more with anything in my life. Well, probably I guess.

The only thing I can think of is that the card lets people pay without needing cash and without needing a major credit card or debit card. Which... is probably, like, five people in the mountains of Montana at this point

But really, I think that's the aim. Customers who don't want to have to carry cash, but want the ease of paying with a card. As for billing it as the perfect gift? Dunno. Maybe they want rich parents to put $200 on and send it to college kids.

Well, uh, I guess if you really hated the cash... and didn't want to use a credit/debit card (even though 99% of them take them)... then sure! Why not!

But as for the perfect gift part, I was more talking about the rechargeable aspect that gets me. Gift cards in and of themselves are fine. In fact, hey, I love gift cards. But then recharging the card to give to someone else? Seems tacky. And well, we discussed the other alternative above.

It is tacky! It's like regifting, but worse, since at least with regifting there's a chance that the recipient won't know that it's a regift. If you give them a used gift card, they will definitely know.
